Superluminal travel, commonly called faster-than-light travel (or FTL), is the means by which starships travel massive interstellar distances in a short amount of time.

This can be achieved in several different ways, but most commonly by the use of a subspace pathfinder engine, one of the safest and most efficient methods. This specific method propels a ship through subspace, which is also the dimension that communication signals are sent through. However, ships travel through a much lower tier of subspace and thus cannot travel instantaneously as signals do.
